BAJIRAO MASTAANI - A period melodrama

This one is a complete SLB typical flick having its grandeur, power pack performances , heavy filmy dialogues and somewhat depressing climax.
The grand scale is mesmerising and the way maratha empire is portrayed is commendable. Bhansali sure has a vision to make a period film which did not look shabby or boring which several filmmakers would fail in. This time it looks real and not fake sets like sawaariya did.
The movie in the 1st half is very much on track having a parallel storyline blend of love story and bajirao peshwa's wit and bravery as a warrior on conquering India against moghuls. But turns out to be typical Bhansali love story by the climax ending on a depressing note.Dialogues are surely a USP of the film apart from Ranveer Singh. Music is only good for 2 songs Deewani and Malhari. Others do not add to unlike Ramleela.
Talking about the performances Ranveer Singh is indeed the new superstar of bwood having a long way to go. His body language, his accent, his dance and his screen presence is the best part of the film. Deepika does what is expected from her, can't call it her best performance. Priyanka chopra evolves as an actor very well in the role of Kashi Bai. She gives a vision as to how Kashi Bai would have actually been.
Overall the movie is just a 1 time watch for its grandeur and power pack performances.

HATE STORY 3 - Watchable only when u have nothing to do !!

The Vikram Bhatt franchise maintains its unrequired  skin show in songs and the various twists in the story line which make it the hate story it is. With revenge as motive and suspense which keeps u engrossed somewhat the movie becomes just Ok avoiding the acting performances.
Direction is ok and is a typical  bolly Masala with predictable dialogues which could have been better and songs with good music and pathetic lyrics.
Major weakness is the actors. None have acted greatly and struggle to match up to the strong script. This movie could have been way better if casting was taken care of. Sharman Joshi struggles and other 3 are hopeless who spoil the interest in the movie.
The 1st half is sheer boredom with daisy shah and her bad acting. Movie takes a toll in the 2nd half only and keeps it interesting in bits and piece with the unveiling suspense.
Overall its a pretty good script with bad performances making it just watchable but 'At Home'...

PREM RATAN DHAN PAYO Par entertainment nahi layo

The team up of Sooraj Barjatya and Salman khan takes ur expectations pretty high for this one but leads to disappointment as the movie is pretty tiring and full of boredom. Major problem being the plot in itself as its adapted from a Bengali movie of a royal dynasty story. The look being all that of a royal family with almost all forts of Rajasthan used to shoot but the storyline itself has too much of flaws taking the fact why would it be so important to announce Salman as a king in a Raj tilak in today's time and Salmans accident scene which happens in a 'royal' horsecart when they have fleets of Mercedes and ipads technologies otherwise. So they filmed it same as it is from the Bengali film which was based on olden times which leads to a mismatch of logic for this flick.
This time no big families or weddings unlike other rajshri movies but its again a family drama with a love story. Too many songs and nothing exciting by himesh reshammiya on music front. The lyrics try to be situational which is not needed to be explained for this simple storyline. For example 'Aaj unse milna hai humein' comes before Salman meets Sonam. So obvious isn't it??
Coming to performances its completely a Salman khan movie ( u will like him as prem dilwala) , he is majorly in the frame others been sidelined. Anupam kher, Deepak dobriyal and swara bhaskar have done their bit well.Sonam doesn't seem to be serious on her role as a royal princess. Arman Kohli and Neil Nitin Mukesh pretty avoidable.
Overall an avoidable movie this diwali. Simply hyped leading to another undeserving movie joining 100 crore club.

Main Aur CHARLES ...A Disappointment till the End !!!

Although being a low budget movie , but the strong n complex character of Charles sobhraj & his life journey was expected to be portrayed more deeply. There was a lot more to cover which is not shown thus making the movie neither an absolute biopic of the bikini killer nor an entertaining conman story.
The director praawal raman fails big time to make the movie crisp and clear in its views or storytelling making it one of his worst attempts till date. Neither the plot has a grip nor editing is in line to keep u engaged from the beginning itself. Repetitive scenes and unnecessary skin show leads to boredom. Nothing great as far as music or dialogues are concerned either. The 1st half is a waste of the screentime, the movie unfolds to some sense only in the latter one. Several parts or character of sobhraj's criminal life are not highlighted and the slow pace of the movie makes it worse.
As far as performances are concerned Adil Hussain and Richa chaddha (having major roles)  are too bad to play their bit. Randeep hooda tries to work on his character with his accent and look resembling to sobhraj but only looks OK as compared to other actors atleast. Overall its an avoidable one this week. The makers have thugged u like the criminal if u go for this 1 ;)

PYAR KA PUNCHNAMA 2 – A fullon Entertainer , A must watch

The movie has a similar plot but with fresh ideas, new sequences and a new starcast as well. The storyline is pretty good with all the 6 actors given pretty impressive roles. This time director Luv Ranjan portrays 3 different kind of girls and the problems faced by their lover boys. If you thought that 1st part covered all the valid arguments and problems of being a boyfriend in today’s time then u need to watch this one for some additional ones which are equally applicable to my poor committed friends. The movie has a grip from the starts and keeps you entertained with catchy one liners and hilarious sequences throughout till the end. A very innovative idea must say for the way the interval scene arrives and also a different climax. The famous Karthik’s breathless argument from 1st one is a delight to watch. This time it’s for 8 and a half minute and its superfun with new points which I am sure every guy would agree.
For the performances each one of them have done excellent performances especially Karthik and Nushrat as a couple. There is no point where u miss Divyendu aka Liquid from the 1st PKP as they have a substitute Sunny Singh who has done an impressive debut with power pack performance and superb comic timing.
This one is not the regular Bollywood 2nd part with similar plot and some catchy sequences to attract you to a theatre and disappoint. This one is pretty much at par with the 1st PKP from entertainment point of view. Amazing job by the director who has been successful to make a superhit 2nd part and also one the bests for 2015. It’s entertaining, funny, good direction and a good script.

Go for it once, worth taking a risk by watching it even with your girlfriend ;)

PIKU

PIKU (2015) - A one-time watch for this weekend....
The movie has a super advantage of having 3 amazing performers & director Shoojit Sircar is able to explore the talent well.
Amitabh Bachchan is an asset to the movie with his worth watching performance as the old Bengali Man's character so well. Irfan khan looks as a smaller actor in front of Big B more because of the characterization but has again proved that he is a versatile actor and very much professionally & so has Deepika done it yet again.
The movie is on a lighter note which will make u laugh every now & then with arguments of Big B on everything Deepika does and ironically says he wants her to be Independent. There is too much focus on constipation & motion throughout which leads to too many toilet jokes but its Big B and Irfan's acting who save it not looking boring or monotonous. Music is quite forgettable and doesn't add to the movie.
Shoojit sircar has again used a combo of Delhi based punjabi guy & a bong girl just like Vicky Donor only here more focus is on the bong culture. The direction is right on track which many good directors fail with such a different script & keeps the movie watchable till the end.

In all the movie is not the best of the year but surely a watchable one with gr8 acting.
Verdict - 3* on 5

TANU WEDS MANU RETURNS - A sureshot one time watch

TANU WEDS MANU RETURNS - A sureshot one time watch
This has to be one of the best movies released yet this year & one of the best performance of -Kangana Ranaut till date.
The movie makes you laugh every other scene especially those who have seen the 1st part its a delight for them to watch. It’s a pure sequel movie starts where the 1st one ended and has superb performance and punches to enjoy. Anand Rai as a director does it again after Tanu weds Manu & Ranjhaana with making a love story look fresh which big banners like Dharma production & Yrf fail these days. He has been able to maintain the look and the feel exactly as the 1st part and has used its characterization to the best for this script.Music is good and keeps you entertained in the movie.
Kangana Ranaut is the USP of this movie as Tanu again and the 2nd role Kusum who is even more adorable character to watch. She has shown her true potential and is given full freedom to portray it. Indeed she is not only one of the best contemporary actresses but also has the right sense to select a good script for her career.
Other actors like Jimmy Shergill , Deepak Dobriyal (pappi) , Zeeshan ayub ,Swara Bhaskar, etc. have given good support. Madhavan has been sidelined compared to the 1st part and doesn't have much to do. This is a reverse bollywood love story where Heroine takes it all and Hero is there more for songs and to stand in the frame since the story is around him.
For movie lover do watch it because you rarely get amazing performances, good direction & entertaining movie all in one movie these days.
Verdict - 3.5 * on 5

TEVAR

TEVAR (2015) – A poor attempt to relaunch Arjun Kapoor by Papa
The trend of Bollywood of Fathers trying to launch or relaunch their kids has been since ages & apart from a few examples like Hrithik –Rakesh roshan or Raj Kapoor – Rishi Kapoor others have failed big time. Still this flick shows a recent example to prove it again. The same old masala drama movie where there is south style action, A self-proclaimed hero, a damsel in distress heroine & a powerful and corrupt villain who falls in love with the heroine.
Well clearly the movie is a flop attempt of boney Kapoor to help Arjun Kapoor for his career graph which is falling with similar kind of roles he does. Wonder why Sonakshi always does such roles where she is just the heroine and not the actress. Just for songs & to have a plot of hero- villain fight we need this heroine. Manoj Bajpai trying to enter such commercial cinema & fails to save the movie even after being potentially such a good actor. The movie has a song dedicated to Salman Khan & a couple of few more boring ones which complete a useless album with poor lyrics.
The direction is ok and supporting cast does their job fine. Manoj Bajpai has given his 100% but the plot itself is boring and making such a movie in 2015 and expecting it to work is foolishness in itself. Arjun Kapoor and Sonakshi seriously need acting lessons with increasing competition. Sonakshi should also focus on her increasing weight because she doesn’t look like a young delicate girl who is so much troubled and scared of villains.
Overall nothing to watch in this flick. A big release in the beginning of the year and so is a Big flop this year. It is an avoidable one.

Verdict – 1.5* of 5

DIL DHADAKNE DO

DIL DHADAKNE DO – A flop remake of ZNMD

The movie portrays the life of High society diplomatic people who do not live their life to the fullest hence the title. But this movie has so many characters & character introductions some being useless to the script that the 1st half seems too dull to indulge in the story.
So here is a Cruise celebrating wedding anniversary instead of a bachelor trip of ZNMD & a dog giving life philosophy with Aamir Khan's voice-over as a replacement for Farhan Akhtar's poetry in the former.
Actors like Anil Kapoor & Ranveer Singh are an asset (the 2 lovable characters), priyanka chopra and shefali shah have done a good job on their part whilst others like Anushka Sharma , Rahul Bose , Farhan Akhtar have very less to do for the movie. Farhan Akhtar has very less screen presence while Anushka Sharma has done a role which any of the contemporaries could do. There are some rib tickling moments to be precise in the last 50 mins in this 2 hrs 50 mins long movie but fails to cover up for the monotonous and slow 1st half.
The music is a very weak point as they are neither required nor they entertain. Also choreography in the songs (especially one which shows Anushka's passion for dance) is another minus to the already existing drawbacks.
You would be only happy to see the last part of this flick if you have the patience to enjoy it.Instead of Ranveer- anushka chemistry its Ranveer - Priyanka's bonding as siblings which is one plus point to this movie. Overall it can be watched at home in leisure time than going to a theatre.

Verdict - 2 * on 5

ROY (2015) – Boredom to the core…

The director has thought of making something different which lands up to something absurd & tiresome to watch or even understand. A parallel onscreen & offscreen story portraying Ranbir Kapoor as Roy whereas you have to see more of Arjun Rampal & Jacquilene in the movie makes you realise you have wasted your time choosing this boring saga.
Ranbir Kapoor in the movie does his job well but is less to watch. Arjun Rampal & Jacqueline surely need acting lesson. The blunder of Roy is not just giving such pivotal roles to them but also the script in itself is pretty weak which neither leads a mass entertaining commercial movie nor an art film with a strong message. There is absolutely no Joy in Roy to watch about.
The music is a Saviour to some extent especially with songs like Tu hai ki Nahin by Ankit Tiwari, Sooraj dooba hai & Chitiya Kalayia Ve which is the only refreshing part of the movie. If you do not watch the movie constantly you would be unable to understand the exact story & it’s a challenge to watch the movie with full concentration due to its slow & boring storyline.Somewhere there is a similarity to the idea of movie Shabd which in itself was a disaster starred by Sanjay Dutt, Aishwarya Rai & Zayed Khan.
In a nutshell Roy is a big no no to watch even if you have nothing else to do in life.

Verdict – 1.5* of 5 (Have given 1 for the movie & extra 0.5 * for the good Music)
GABBAR is back – Gabbar is a BRAND or rather a blessing for them
As the name says gabbar as a character is lovable (the one from sholay with his dialogues) , but here is a movie that goes up in the 1st half & IS BACK down in the 2nd half...
The typical 'One man army' character fighting corruption is what is portrayed again which is the impractical part of Bollywood, u find resemblance to movies like Singham, singham returns salman khan south remakes & Ungli as well to some extent.
Akshay Kumar as gabbar has done his part pretty well & there is a story in the movie but overexposure to gabbar & monotonous scenes of policemen brings a bit boredom at times.
The idea is good but nothing very unique ,villain & heroine part is the same which we watch in such movies wherein Shruti hassan comes just to divert the topic with her google research jokes & couple of duet songs.Sunil grover aka gutthi has a very serious role & his humour is not at all used.
Music is pretty avoidable & direction is Ok for Krish for this south Remake.

Overall the movie will earn 100-150 crores bcoz of the long weekend & u can watch it if u r doing absolutely nothing for ur holiday as this is the only Hindi movie release this week
Would give it 2.5* of 5.

HUNTERR

Hunterr – Nostalgia still doesn’t help to HIT

Movie has some humour in bits & parts especially the teenage part , but will confuse on the genre as the target audience is nt defined, its a sex comedy in the 1st half & a normal love story where hero realizes his mistake in the 2nd , seems like an adaptation from Marathi cinema(including actors majorly from Marathi movies)
The hero himself is not a charming personality (both on & offscreen) to justify that he is a big hunter as per the movie's logic, too many flashbacks which break ur link else some portions would have been a delight to watch , overall its ignorable for watching in a theatre...
Rating: 1.5 on 5 *

DUM LAGAKE HAISHA

DUM LAGAKE HAISHA (2015) – The 90s treat

The movie starts well but goes to a slower pace by the end of 1st half, however 2nd half takes it to the next level altogether to the climax.

The USP is the 90's era which is well portrayed. The director has done an amazing job by doing detailing of the era & the very realistic nature of people with a tinge of humor throughout. Several moments which looks so fresh to see in a
movie after a decade brings a smile on your face.
(BeingNostalgic) To addon is the awesome 90's type music by Anu malik & Kumar sanu's golden voice which helps you relate even more.

For the cast Ayushmaan Khurana has given his best performance till date wherin you see him as the character & not as an actor working in a movie.
Another truly commendable performance is by Sanjay mishra who is best suited for such roles & Bhumi pednekar the newbie.

The only dull part was the 1st half that goes on a monotonous mode for certain parts but movie engages you with relatable & realistic reactions of each character for the sequences.
The climax takes it to another level where the message of Compatibility is what matters makes the movie worth watching once.

For movie buffs go for it once.
Rating: 2.5 on 5

SHAMITABH

SHAMITABH (2015) - A very different movie with a ruining end turning it something from a commercial to an art film, but 1 thing to say is only Amitabh can do this , Dhanush is an actor & a star while Akshara is none.
The movie has a pretty good grip, somewhere relatable to Bollywood as an industry especially the contemporary situations. Balki’s direction & Amitabh’s acting has always been good and remains in this one too. Amitabh is the only actor who can do this so easily which becomes acceptable for the audience. He can sing ,act and now does dubbing full-fledged for Dhanush which looks so natural even after recognizing the voice so well since more than 30 years by People. So has Dhanush done it as a mute aspiring to be an actor which is again a tough role to portray. Akshara Hassan seems to be too immature to enter the industry yet and debut with such great performers leads to a disappointing performance to see.
The biggest drawback in this movie is the sad climax which was not needed. The movie could have been closed on a better twist which disappoints you and you think why did they ruin the script. Watch it only for the performances of our Shamitabh pair.

Verdict – 2.5* on 5

Badlapur review

BADLAPUR (2015) – Revenge in a new style
This is one controversial movie with mixed response all side. The movie intentionally says not to Miss the beginning which the director has maintained very much in the script as well. The main event that happens in the beginning if missed will confuse you throughout the movie.

Must say Varun Dhawan has grown as an actor & Nawazuddin is the new best villain nomination category for sure. His acting is just so real and outstanding and Varun has tried to complement the same successfully to some extent.
This movie portrays how their lives change post an event and what it makes them to after 15 years. Every scene is very realistic and no heavy dialogues as such which are expected in such Hero villain revenge stories.
The highlight would be Nawazuddin acting and every faceoff between him and Varun Dhawan.
Also a new style of direction is commendable if you are tired of regular revenge masala movies. Music is pretty good as well with Jee Karda and Jeena Jeena.
The only problem with this movie is extreme violence and adult scenes which are not for the weak hearted or family audience.
For movie lovers go watch it for a different experience, not everyone will like it though but a recommended one to see some matured cinema.

Verdict – 3* on 5

PK - A lot of hype a lot of expectations, fulfills to some extent...

Aamir has done an awesome comeback post Dhoom 3 & earns the respect back as an Ace actor of bollywood. Every scene he depicts PK as an interesting & lovable character to watch. Another special mention for Sanjay Dutt who is just entertaining every time. Anushka , Saurabh shukla & Sushant singh are too common & stereotype characte
rs.

The movie starts with a bang from Aamir's entry but after a while script reminds of OMG Oh My God which had justified its point on religions followed blindfolded in India. Somewhere the uniqueness of the script which has been a strong point of Rajkumar Hirani movies is missing in this one & becomes quite predictable. Every another dialogue has a message for people which becomes pretty monotonous at times.

PKs dialogue delivery in bhojpuri & his perceptions are plus points. The music is apt & timed well with soft melodies which is enjoyable.

The movie is a satire on India's communalism & politics. Has witty humour & good dialogues which can keep you entertained for a while & is excellent but in bits & pieces only. Some scenes are very much engrossing while some are just to pass time.

Do not expect it to be at par with Munnabhai series or 3 idiots & you will love it. Movie lags novelty but it’s a sensible cinema at least.

Overall a 1 time watch... would rate it as 3 on 5 ***

RANG RASIYA – The Bold and beautiful
A very different subject, a highly bold topic ,sensible & relatable to Indian culture, The movie has been criticised for long for its uncensored scene but kuddos to Nandana Sen to have the guts to do it,
Many heroines in Bollywood claim bold scenes but the lady has actually done a topless scene in the movie with full grace ,the director has justified the relevance of the bold scene
as well, movie is a bit boring in the 2nd half but if u want to go for a sensible cinema u can go for this 1.
The climax of the movie is a question to the hypocrisy of Indian culture which actually prevails as far as sex & nudity is concerned. Good performances by Randeep hooda, Paresh rawal & others. A special acclaim to Nandana sen for the performance & the boldness which she actually possesses compared to any other actresses. Good direction by Ketan Mehta and a unique story to tell...
would give 3*** on 5 for the novelty.

HAIDER - A perfect example of serious & slow cinema...
It bores you to the core by the climax. The movie has a story to tell though but in bits & parts. A fullon documentary on Kashmir & Kashmiri militants.
The 1st half is damn slow & keeps you waiting for the story to unwind. Somewhere the movie takes a pace for 30-40 mins but again disappoints by the end.

A scene in the end where 3 oldies dig
in graveyard & are singing a song 'Aao na' makes you realize that its not even an example of sensible cinema but utter nonsensical cinema ... Somewhere reminds of 'Mission Kashmir' by the end where the would be militant boy haider has a change of heart & accepts peace over revenge :P
Only USP is the commendable performances by the actors like Kay Kay menon, Irfan khan & Tabu ( acted as per their calibre) & Shahid Kapoor has actually done an outstanding performance especially in the 2nd half. Wonder why Shradha Kapoor was there in this long & tiring movie of 2 Hrs 47 Mins duration , would have been better if her character was not introduced the movie would have been short and to the point.
Vishal Bhardwaj needs to work on his story telling style as it has been a failure in the recent times with movies like 7 khoon Maaf , Matru ki bijlee ka mandola & now Haider. Also not that impressive music with him & his wife singing half of the songs as usual.
Neither the music nor the beautiful scenes of Kashmir saves the movie. Watch only if you are a Shahid Kapoor fan or are interested in the lives of Kashmiri Militants. Not an entertaining one, only good performances by the actors who somewhere help to pass the time.
Ratings : 2.5 on 5 (that too keeping the performances in mind)

BHOOTNATH RETURNS, returns with a bang,

A good satire on India's current scenario, showing that people are actually so fed up of corrupt humans that they don't even mind electing a ghost who does good work....
Very rare movies we have without a heroine,a cheap item number, or abusive language, this is 1 of those few, shot in Mumbai ,particularly dharavi portrayed but power pack performances
specially by Mr. Bachchan (respect),Boman Irani (no one suits better in that role) ,the kid and other star-cast (Sanjay Mishra at his best) as well makes the movie a 1 Time Watch,
1st half is amazing (full of entertainment), though the movie goes a bit slow in the 2nd, but has an engrossing story & perfect timing of release(with elections nearing) having lots of funny dialogues, makes the movie a complete entertainer with a good message ...
A sheer treat for Big B's fans (& obviously he has a huge fan following to attract this 1),finally u can go for a good movie with full family :)
would give a 3 on 5 ***
